Yahoo Suggestion Board

Just launched, Yahoo Suggestion Board is not a Digg clone, but an excellent way to hear feedback from users to improve Yahoo! Services. The idea looks amazing, how to make users improve services in a very social way with a web2.0 interface.

It's excellent also to see what do people think about Yahoo! services and what feature they want most. What I find great is that Yahoo! guys are listening and answering all comments, many suggestions have been closed already. Suggestion is available for Autos, Mixd, TV, YDN, Gallery, localmaps, Travel, food, hotjobs, realestate, upcoming, siteexplorer, Custom, Pipes, answers and groups. It's not everything, but already a big list, and don't try to find a board for Suggestion itself because there is not anyone.

I would like Yahoo! Human Resources to read thru the internal job postings make sure a BA or Masters in Art does not mean they are computer programmers... Too many time you see the BS Electrical Engineer to fix Microsoft,Novell,Unix Operating System Software or program software...
Yes I have seen a BA in History working in the Mall as sales person of the month, and still cannot be a supervisor. The AA in management or accounting is closer to the retail store, and the paralegal is closer to the human resources OSHA part? They cannot find a Aassociates in Art for Human Resources. Look around you will find a Masters in Business applying for a 'high pay' Engineering job? Or a Bachelors in Engineering applying for a promotion to a business managerial job, thats also 'high paying'?

I would like to see Yahoo! divide its marketing or advertisements to channels. A computer person is more interested in Computer news, a pop-star probably music news or tabloids, a car mechanic probably a car magazine, ...
So, its best to send sales advertisements on Yahoo! Cars to the car magazine, Yahoo! Music to a music magazine such as Rolling Stone, Yahoo! Computing to a Computer Magazine, Yahoo! Business to Business Journals...
- Better than a random shot in the dark.

3

I would like Yahoo! to hire persons with 1 college level class in Art Drawing to make its smileys, banners, icons, and related small picture files. If they have a full college degree in Art this might include Photography, film, page layout,...
Note music is another field,

They cannot change the Dictionary meanings of certain terms such as 'bad' being good, slang cool talk. Other as 'Nasty Girls' as nice girls, geek never was slang for 'coolest smart person'. No, forbidden...grounds for termination if they work the technical writer department with it in final production print.

4

I would like to see a wall clock with chime in some Yahoo! offices. To remind people, lunch is about 11am to 1pm, for thier own health reasons. Other cases where 9am reminder or 3pm reminder. Yahoo! employees that are busy, or work in the windowless basement offices cannot tell if the sun is up or down.

5

Any Yahoo! facilities support such as janitorial, office supplies, postal mail that cannot make deliveries or service a department or office PLEASE SPEAK UP. So that the department or party that called for janitorial, office supplies, do not write up the delivering employee trying to service the department or persons.
Such things as: LOCKED OFFICE DOOR, EMPLOYEE LEFT FOR BREAK, EMPLOYEE DID NOT SAY WHICH COMPUTER, EMPLOYEE DID NOT SAY DEPARTMENT, EMPLOYEE DID NOT HAVE PHONE EXTENSION OR OFFICE LOCATION...
Too many times a employee has locked the office door for a computer problem or printer problem. Another issue where computer maintenance such as removing recycle bin contents, re-login are taken in help desk as ONE LARGE ISSUE, but separate problems. Nothing to do with the brand, or what brand was there before if there was a computer before.

6

I would like to have all Yahoo! Offices have the fire escape stairs, and other stairs open for employee use.
For reasons:
1. Allows daily visual inspections by Yahoo! building facilities, including other employees.
2. Allows employees, to kindly use stairs when other employees are moving computers, boxes, wheel chairs, and other large boxes of paper.
3. Allows employees with health in mind to get some physical activity, instead of elevators or escalators.
4. Allows employees to comment is the fire escape wide, short, small door,... to accomodate fire and emergency medical services. Instead of elevators.
5. Does it save electricity? If the elevator is not in use, yes. Not worth the trouble if persons 'over the hill' can use the stairs, and I am not talking sweat with deodorants.

7

Since parking is an issue.
I would like Yahoo! to monthly note:

Red Lines fading at the fire hydrant on the same lot as Yahoo! Offices, to bring this to Yahoo! attention. (No Parking Sign areas).

Any loading zone should also be clearly marked, just to get persons out of the way. Courtesy to those lifing and moving frieght, supplies, and related material for the office. Yahoo! own commercial vehicles should be taken into account when painting the curb area.

- ** Any employee that would donate the dimensions thier vehicles are welcome, when Yahoo! repaints the parking lot slots at Yahoo! Offices.

8

If any Yahoo! employee noticed, large delivery semi-trucks cannot fit the parking lot or drive way on Yahoo! Offices, please let Yahoo! know. Yahoo! can inform the delivery to avoid damage to the Yahoo! parking lots, and delivery vehicles.

9

Yahoo! should have the policy about food at the office:
1. Do not throw it in the trash can at your office cubicle; after hours the door might be locked. Throw the bag of burnt popcorn, coffee cup, fries, hot dogs,.. in the nearest break room trash can. The smell is terrible over-night, with the air not being circulated, even causes air-sickness at the offices; it has been documented.

2. Always available to those who prefer coffee, dish soap and sponge to clean thier own coffee mugs and glasses. Coca-cola, star bucks, Walong Marketing, Arizona Tea offers canned coffee, soy milk, juice or tea. Other companies that offer instant coffee in a small packet pre-mixed, similar to instant sugar.

10

Office chairs to have arm rests, height adjustable, including back adjustable.
Some of these chairs can be cleaned with: Lysol spray for the non-cloth part, and fabric cleaner.
At least 4 wheels, 6 is more stable.

11

Any office phone, keyboard or mice to be cleaned regularly with wipes.
Phones headsets always need to be cleaned, computer monitors, keyboards,...
Any person that works phone operator, help desk, receptionist... needs clean headsets non-insertable ear, with changable microphones. The ear pads are chanaged regularly including the mouth peice.
Preferrably, the headset has a bag, with the employee name.

12

Yahoo! Offices;
Please do not walk up to the person on the phone that is talking on the phone. Wait your turn.
Do not interupt the persons talking on business or to the customer, "Butt-In" if it is not a 'Fire-EarthQuake Emergency".

13

Yahoo! Offices;
No meetings with 'thyself' deciding department policy, for everyone.
Do not leave a department employee out of the meeting when you require the information from the employee.
Do not ask for the information either as in 'pop quiz, jeopardy time'.
Do not change the system settings without letting the other employees that keep the system running also. Including the night and weekend work-shift.

14

If the company is laying off person, do not do it at random. Look at:
1. Attendance.
2. Over-time: sacrifice night, weekend, cartoons, sports, or college.
3. Time of year, what time of year does gift buying go up? Usually Holidays. Yahoo! should have stable customers, unless its a price war or features war.
4. How many employees whose level education is below thier job. That employee took computer college class, with certifications the other read a book.
5. Informed manager vacation in 1 day, forcing over-time from co-workers. non-medical.

15

Yahoo! Offices;
Please count office space taken by paper file cabinets, bookshelves... any thing that can be put on internal company file servers and tape-backup or server backup.
One less metal file cabinet really is more space to 'stretch out', a sofa, electric fan, soda machine, comfort furniture, breakroom entertainment.
NEVER NEVER throw away original reciepts of office equipment, paid bills, loan payments, bank accounts (print these even if electronic). TAX PAPERS make copies of these. Business permits, court documents, make copies and store on tape also. Companies want original purchase order reciepts, including loans.

16

Yahoo!
To increase its market as a WWW services provider, by becoming a house-hold name needs products that would sell directly to the home market.
I would say Yahoo! support for downloading to a Xbox 360, Playstation 3, ... a video game console with a hard drive, and online gaming.
This allows Yahoo! provide downloadable files, as in video game trials for the video game market via, HomeCableInternet or HomeDSL.
Including MP3, music videos, jukeboxes, and Entire movies. Say the under $20.00 DVD video or Educational Training Video: First Aid, CPR, Sesame Street, Curious George, The Muppets, Inspector Gadget, NetCE.org,...

17

Should Yahoo! make deals with Board Game makers turning board games, into child under 20 into downloadable video games and multiplayer. Instead of making its own board games, and card games?
Including card games: Fish, Uno, Texas'Poker... available at local drug stores?

18

Yahoo! offices should document any employees asking help that takes up office time, to protect the helping employees from performance reviews.
Such things as:
1. Other employee needed car ride to work and home. Meaning: 'Helping employee had to leave early' documented as taking off from work.
Same as: employee car was at dealer for repairs.
2. Any employee that is really doing 'dry cleaner clothing service','vaacation planner','bridal planner','cafe meal planner',.. for other Yahoo! employees.
3. Including borrowed personal items, lunch money, pens, computer manuals, computer certification material, computer career material, car magazines, computer review magazines, the sunday newspaper, video game magazine... !!Do not call the company and change the delivery address to the company CEO office!! as shoe-lick!!

From my own experience: such demands from non-relationed family does take up personal time, and work time. If the person worked 9 hours, then is asked for help...this is 'bad' if the employee is on the 'termination schedule'.(labeled:ANTI-SOCIAL FOR NOT HELPING $30,000 AND HIGHER EMPLOYEES).

19

Yahoo! Office;
If the employee has visitors, please document it also. A parent employee that cannot find a babysitter for a child might be welcome, but I remember no strict policy on 'No' for safety reasons.
However! Any under 21 year old employee that has several boyfriends at the office, and one married manager. There is a problem when the parent, wants to know who these people are, the parent then comes in making management decisions, even friend of the owner and is a shareholder. Walking into closed areas including hazard areas, obtaining computer informaiton and price at a cheap price of $0.00. Serious problem if the married manager was the one hugging the under 24 year old employee in braces as 'cute'.

20

Should Yahoo! allow parents to bring thier children to the office. In cases of lack of a baby sitter on spring break, summer? But not a whole month or to closed areas.
This allows Yahoo! to test products for younger ages, if the child has nothing to do.
